Our zine printing services help you to get creative when bringing your photo zines, art sketchbooks and indie publications to life in print. Before the internet, zines were independent alternatives to magazines, produced at low cost, photocopied and distributed. Zines are usually a staple bound booklet that allow writers, photographers, artists and creatives to share their ideas. Whatever your zine is about, we can print it in high quality without betraying the indie publication look you’re going for. Choose from our huge range of paper types, paper weights, bindings and finishes to create the perfect zine to appeal to your audience.

How to Print Your Zine

How to upload your files

We’ll accept your zine files however you’d like to send them – as single pages or spreads, or with all pages combined into one file.

Cover

Every zine cover consists of four pages. These include the front cover, inside front cover, back cover, and back inside cover. Design your zine to accommodate this layout.

Bleed

We ask for a 3mm bleed on all pages for your zine. Please don’t put any important content in this space, or refrain from putting anything at all.

Binding

Our binding options for zines include saddle stitched or stapled, perfect bound, and wiro bound. Please note that while zines are typically printed with a stapled binding, the number of pages in your zine might determine the binding option. If you have too many pages, you may have to opt for perfect bound to hold the zine together. When you upload your pages to our online system, we’ll recommend which binding option is best.

Spine for Perfect Bound

If you select the perfect bound option for your zine, you have the option to add a design to the spine. We ask that you upload the spine as a separate print file. If you don’t upload a separate file, we must leave the spine on your zine blank.

Completing your order

To complete your order, you must ensure all placeholders for your pages are filled. You can add pages in multiples of 4. If your zine has 28 pages, for example, ensure that all 28 boxes have content. If you don’t have zine content to fill these pages, you must add blank pages.

Zine Printing FAQ

We recommend uploading single pages organised within a single PDF file..

Yes. We’re one of the best perfect bound printing companies in the UK. PUR binding requires a minimum number of pages.

Only if your zine is going to be perfect bound. You have the option of uploading a double page spread with spine for your cover file. Or you can upload the front cover, back cover and spine file separately.

For small runs, we tend to print your zines on HP Indigos for digital printing and for larger runs of 1,000+ copies, we use Heidelberg Speedmasters for offset litho printing. For more information, please see our plant list.

Yes. All our papers are FSC® certified, we are a CarbonNeutral® company and ISO 14001 Environmental Management certified. For more information, please see our sustainability accreditations.

Nope. You can enjoy full use of our web-to-print platform and customer services without paying a penny. You only pay when you’re absolutely ready to print.

Our web-to-print system accepts most file types. However, we highly recommend a 300dpi high resolution PDF for the best results. Please check your digital proofs prior to printing.

Not yet, but soon. In the meantime, we recommend adding a 3mm bleed area to the outside of your pages and a 5mm quiet area on the inside of your pages. For more information, visit our print file setup guide.

Yes. Once you upload your artwork files, our online printing system has a zine proofing feature to help you check your proofs, flag any issues and ask our customer service team any questions you may have before you send your job into production.

If your zine is perfect bound, the system will calculate the spine width of your zine for you when you visit our file uploading page. Don’t forget to upload your spine file.

No. Printed zines are exempt from VAT.
