Frequently Asked Questions

Your Questions Answered

What is bleed?

Bleed is the part of your artwork at the edges that goes past the trim lines. This area is trimmed away during the printing process.

In professional printing, several pages are printed on a large single sheet, which is then cut into individual pages or products like brochures or posters. If your design fills the page but lacks additional bleed, you may see unwanted white borders on the final product.

It's crucial for any designs that reach the edge of the page to extend beyond the trim lines. This ensures that there are no white edges after trimming.

At YouLovePrint, we recommend adding a 3mm bleed to all artwork to prevent these issues.

Which file types can I upload?

At YouLovePrint, we need you to upload files as a single PDFs containing multiple pages. The only exception to this is for Giclee prints for which we can also accept JPEGS.

For the best outcomes, ensure that your colours are set to CMYK and your images have a resolution ranging from 150 to 300dpi. For more detailed information about how to create an optimised PDF for print production please visit the specific topic in our Knowledge Hub.

How do I upload my covers and spine design?

For products which have a spine, with hardback and PUR binding, you will need to upload your cover as a spread which includes the spine. The spine width depends on the number of pages and material selected and the calculation is shown on the order page.

You can open a product specific artwork guide on each page which shows you how this is set up.

Should I upload single pages or spreads?

This depends on the product you are ordering:

  • For single and two page products upload single pages
  • For stapled and wiro products upload single pages
  • For folded products a spread of all the printed pages
  • For PUR bound products one file as a spread for the cover, including the spine, plus one file for the content as single pages
  • For hardback products one file as a spread, including the spine, hinges and wraparound plus one file for the content as single pages

You can open a product specific artwork guide on each page which will confirm this.

Where do you deliver and how do I know the cost of this?

We deliver throughout the world.

In the UK we use ParcelForce for smaller deliveries and ILS for those going on a pallet. For the rest of the world, we generally use DHL Express.

When your job is shipped, you will receive confirmation which includes a tracking number which becomes live the next working day.

To give you the best price, we always calculate the shipment cost at the basket stage – if you would like to see your likely cost, add your product to the basket where if you enter your address a price is shown for both standard and palletised options. For overseas deliveries, you are always responsible for any and all import duties and tax which will be collected by the courier directly.
